Current data coverage

The table below provides an overview of the current data gaps and missing trait coverage in the MAP Database based on species, trait, and ecozone.

The Species section indicates the MAP identification number (MAP ID #) for each species, plus the accepted species name according to Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). The MAP Species List is primarily based on the list of aquatic species produced by Kevin Murphy et al. (2019; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.aquabot.2019.06.006). The MAP Species list was last updated in March 2023 to ensure current accepted species names are used per GBIF.

The Trait section indicates the trait coverage by species. A non-zero value (≥1) indicates the number of individual records of a trait for a given species and a value of zero (0) represents no records in the database. The Ecozone section indicates the ecozones where each species is found (see map below). A value of one (1) indicates the species occurs in that ecozone and a value of zero (0) indicates the species does not occur in that ecozone. Ecozones are abbreviated as follows: Neotropics: Neotr; Australasia: Austral; Palaearctic: Palearc; Afrotropics: Afrotr; Orient (Indomalaya); Nearctic: Nearc.
